Dad's Army 2016 Film Review

It's not uncommon film fans for a successful UK sitcom to get a film adaptation what is uncommon tho is for that same sitcom to spawn two very different film adaptations released decades apart from one another. This was the case with the film that i'm about to review for you all today since the original film version was released all the way back in 1971 with this film being a remake of the original show and being released in 2016 and so then join me as I review the film that brings a war story to an end with the film in question being called simply just "Dad's Army" enjoy.

The plot of this film is it's just a few short months away from the end of the second world war and there's a spy on the loose and it's up to the hapless Walmington-On-Sea homeguard to find this spy before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personal;y thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good as it was a genuinely entertaining and a very engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Toby Jones as Captain Mainwaring , Bill Nighy as Sergeant Wilson and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Rose Winters. Also starring in this film is Tom Courtenay as Lance Corporal Jones , Blake Harrison as Private Pike , Sir Michael Gambon as Private Godfrey , Bill Paterson as Private Frazer , Daniel Mays as Private Walker , Sarah Lancashire as Mrs Pike , Mark Gatiss as Colonel Theakes , Mark Tandy as Major Cunningham , Andrew Havill as Captain Meeks , Emily Atack as Daphne , Alison Steadman as Mrs Fox , Holli Dempsey as Vera Shilton , Annette Crosbie as Cissy Godfrey , original Dad's Army actor Ian Lavender as Brigadier Pritchard , original Dad's Army actor Frank Williams as The Reverend Timothy Farthing , Felicity Montagu as Mrs Mainwaring , Martin Savage as Warden Hodges , Oliver Tobias as Admiral Canaris , Julia Foster as Dolly Godfrey and Jacqueline Tong as Mrs Todd.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With this films acting being alot better then what it really had any right to be which shouldn't be all that surprising given who is starring in this film since all of this films cast members are some really good actor sand actresses.

In some ways both this film , the previous film and the TV show both of the exact same name tell one complete story with the first film dealing the early days of the way , the TV show mainly dealing with the middle of the way and this film now dealing with the end of the war. This was something that I never realized until I was watching the film for this review and it's something that I really did like as it does end the story of this franchise in a way that feels really satisfactory and is yet totally in keeping with the shows entire premise as well.

The idea of their being a spy in this little town was a god idea and to the film credit they do take as full advantage of this idea. However it is pretty obvious who the spy is since all you need is basic knowledge of the TV show to know that's it's not any of the TV show characters and so that only leaves us with a small amount of new characters that are introduced in this film and when your whole entire film is built around trying to work who the spy is then the idea falls apart even more so when the film tells you who the spy is not long into the films running time.

This films new characters are barely even memorable with the only memorable one that I can think of being Mrs Mainwaring. Just because we actually get to see her in this movie which is something that just wasn't the case for either the TV show or the first movie and plus seeing that she is exactly like her husband just opens the film to alot of jokes all of which would make the character seem even more memorable but since the film doesn't make any of those jokes she is just a memorable character with the only real issue being that just like none of the new characters barring Rose Winters Mrs Mainwaring really isn't given that much in the way of a personality traite.

The one scene that really hit me was ironically enough the films third act action sequence because in that sequence one of the character confesses to the other that he's scared. That one piece if dialog just reminded me that these characters aren't trained army men there normal men who are just doing the best that they can with little that they've been given and for them having a small skirmish on the local beach might mean the end of them and when I realized that that one little sequence made me choke up because I had gotten that invested in that one little sequence not to mention some of the character development that we got in that one scene was just great to watch as well.

Now then I cannot for the absolutely life of me remember whatever this films running time even was I do know for a fact that this film has / had an exact grand total running time of roughly one hour and thirty five minuets. Which for a film like this is kind of the perfect running time to have since it doesn't have to set up all it's characters and it's world since the original TV show and movie have already done all of that and so it all it has to do is tell it's story and it really doesn't have alot of story to cover that long of running time and so giving it this  running time only works out well enough for this film and in this films favor since every scene has to be about advancing the plot and this means that the films pacing is really good as well.

So now then since this is a comedy that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty pretty bad. Since alot of this films jokes just aren't that funny and the ones that are funny just don't get that big of a laugh out of me which is a shame because we do have some really funny people starring in this film and yet they are given next to nothing funny to say or do in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this film was a decent remake that was alot better then what I actually remember it being and dare I say this but it's also one of the better TV to film remakes out there as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film earns itself a grand old score of exactly a 6.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com , the official Dad's Army fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my preferred website to use to get images from this film being Google Images just simply due to the fact that alot of the images that are on Google Images are all fairly high quality and as well as being fairly high definition.
