Godzilla 2014 Film Review

The king of the monsters is a title that's been held by one creature since the nineteen fifties and the creature has dominated Japanese cinemas since his debut in 1954. The same thing cannot be said for his American films with his 1998 film being so bad that it forced his Japanese counterpart out of retirement and so then join me as I review the film that restored the god in godzilla and proved that an American Godzilla could work and be successful at the box office with the film in question being called simply just "Godzilla" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when monsters escape a Japanese nuclear facility they also let loose the king of the minsters and the three head towards a gigantic showdown with the human race stuck right in the middle. Now then interms interms of what I personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films story being genuinely quite engaging and entertaining as all heck in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Lieutenant Ford Brody and Ken Watanabe as Ishiro Serizawa. Also starring in this film is Elizabeth Olsen as Elle Brody , Sally Hawkins as Doctor Vivienne Graham , David Strathairn as Admiral William Stenz , Juliette Binoche as Sandra Brody , Carson Bolde as Sam Brody , Richard T. Jones as Russell Hampton , Victor Rasuk as Tre Morales , Patrick Sabongui as Marcus Waltz , Brian Markinson as Whalen , Al Sapienza as Huddleston , Jake Cunanan as Akio , Bryan Cranston as Joseph Brody and T.J. Storm as Godzilla.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Which given that this film is directed by Gareth Edwards that really isn't surprising since the guy does know how to get good performances out his cast  and all of this film cast members are some really good actors and actresses and so then of course they are all going to turn in some really good performances in this film.

Doing the CGI for this film is Double Negative , Moving Picture Company , Scanline VFX , Bubble Creations Digital Studios , Legacy Effects , Lindala Schminken FX , Mist VFX Studio , Pixel Playground , The Third Floor and Wētā FX. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films CGI holding up very well for the most part but with that being said there are a few dodgy looking CGI effects shots in this film tho that does bring down the overall quality of the CGI in this film.

When your watching a Godzilla film you don't usually want alot of attention to be on the human characters. Well that's sadly what this film gives you and it more often then not leaves the character that you actually came to see feeling alot more like a side character in his own movie which wouldn't be that much of a bad thing if the human characters were written well enough but there not there all just written like the same stoic character since there's no difference in the writing of all of this films human characters at all.

This film feels like that it's monster movie that's afraid to be a monster movie since every thing that we love about monster movies just isn't present in this film. Which for the most part could be seen as a good thing since the seventies Godzilla movies did get a little bit campy but at the same time it could also be seen as a bad thing since this film is a monster movie and yet when you don;t even give us a good look at Godzilla himself until we are well over half way through the film then it makes you wonder if the makers behind this film were monster movie fans at all.

Out of the two original American Godzilla films that we had at this point this one is quite clearly the better of the two. Since this film actually looks and feels like a Godzilla where as the 1998 Godzilla movie just didn't but the 1998 Godzilla had all of the fun that you'd expect a Godzilla movie to have where as this film takes itself far to seriously and as such this film just isn't that fun of a film to watch which shouldn't be the case for a Godzilla movie at all.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and three minuets and seven seconds. Which I have to admit that this film is a bit on the long side mostly because of the fact that for a vast majority of the films running time we are stuck with these rather boring human characters that don't really do all that much to affect the plot of the film and as such this film does feel a bit boring at times which when your films is well over two hours long isn't something that you want to happen.

So now then since this is an action film after all that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Well the action that we get to actually see is good since for some strange reason this film likes to cut away from the action before it starts and just show us the human characters which isn't exciting and it's not why you come to see a monster movie in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while this film is quite easily better the 1998 Godzilla movie this film still does have quite alot of flaws to it which is a shame because this film had all the potential in the world to be one of the greatest Godzilla movies ever made in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from Wikizilla , the official Godzilla fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this very / particular / exact film being obviously Wikizilla page since alot of the images that are from this film and that are currently still indeed up on Wikizilla are all fairly freaking high in quality and as well as being fairly freaking high in definition.
