They Live Film Review

 

Every so often I get the chance to cover a film that I myself have never seen and well then today is one of those days. Since everybody has pretty much heard of THAT iconic quote from this movie i've never sat down and actually watched the film itself and i'm now kicking myself for not watching this movie alot sooner and so then join me as I review the movie that gave us one of the greatest lines in cinematic history with the film in question being called simply just "They Live" enjoy.

The plot of this film is drifter stumbles upon an Alien invasion and so has to team up with his new friend to stop the invasion before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films plot being genuinely quite engaging and really entertaining as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is the late Rowdy Roddy Piper as Nada and The Thing star Keith David as Frank Armitage. Also starring in this film is Meg Foster as Holly Thompson , Raymond St. Jacques as The Street Preacher , George Buck Flower as The Drifter / A Collaborator , Peter Jason as Gilbert , Sy Richardson as The Black Revolutionary , Susan Blanchard as Ingenue and Norman Alden as The Construction Foreman.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty alot better then what I thought that it was going to be. Since just going by the premise alone it doesn't really require good acting but nope every single actor in this film turns in some really good performances in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

When this film was first released it got a ton of negative reviews from film critics and I think that I know why. Since to me it's because those film crit8cs were expecting the next Halloween and when they didn't get that they immediately started to give the film alot of negative reviews now I can't say for sure if this was true or not but given that at that time the only John Carpenter film to get positive reviews was Halloween one can't help but wonder if that was the case in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. 

This film is of course really well known for a line that Roddy Piper says which i'm not going to bother repeating here since it's such a well known line of dialog it would just be pointless for me to do so. What's really shocking is that Roddy Piper himself came up with the line on the day of filming since he had a book where he would write down all of lines that he might use in his wrestling promos and both he and John Carpenter saw this line and thought that it was perfect for not only this film but also for this character so that just goes to show you just how good of a talent that Roddy Piper really well and truly was in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Another thing that this film is really known for is it's five minuet long brawl between to of the main characters. Which just like his famous line was made up some time before filming even began with the original fight only originally intended to last thirty seconds but because John Carpenter liked what the actors were doing he kept in there version of the fight which I have to admit I didn't like just because it went on for a little bit to long for my own personally taste and so it could have been cut down by a few minuets in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Another thing that I didn't really enjoy as much about the film was the B movie level special effects since they just made the film look cheap to me. That's not to say that there bad special effects because there not but when you have these really cheap looking really cheesy looking special effects then they just bring down the overall quality of the film itself which is a shame because this is a really good film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty four minuets and eight seconds. Which really does fly by but at the same time I felt that this film could have been much longer since that would have allowed us to delve deeper into this films characters and to get to know the characters a little bit more which would have helped this film out quite alot in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. 

So now then since this is an action film that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty OK at best. Since even tho we do get this great looking brawl that's really the best action sequence in the entire movie with the rest of this films action sequences just not being all that good in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while i'm glad that i've finally seen this film I think this film has been hyped up so much that this film could never have lived up to all of the hype surrounding this film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film erns itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.
