How To Train You Dragon Review
Hello there animation lovers and movie fans after years of telling me that the How To Train Your Dragons films are worth watching i've finally decided to give in and watch the first one and now i'm going to give you my thoughts on it so here we go.
So then what is the plot of this movie i don't hear you ask well a hapless young Viking who aspires to hunt dragons becomes the unlikely friend of a young dragon himself and learns there may be more to the creatures than he assumed. I have to admit this film has pretty bad pacing at times it flat out bored i wouldn't mind the bad pacing if there was something interesting going on but for the first fifty minuets there isn't and when you add to the fact that is basically a lier reveled story then it really doesn't bode well for the film so far.
The film stars Jay Baruchel as Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III , America Ferrera as Astrid Hofferson , Jonah Hill as Snotlout Jorgenson , Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Fishlegs Ingerman and T. J. Miller and Kristen Wiig as Tuffnut and Ruffnut Thorston. I all honestly the action in this film isn't that bad all the actors voice there characters well so well in fact i can't think of one actor who truly stood out for me that's how good the acting is in this film.
Another thing that this film does really well is the animation may god the animation in this film is stunning as hell everything looks so real and is so well animated just looking at Stoick's beard is a treat for the eyes i can honestly not praise the animation enough.
Not only is the animation really great but so is the artwork the film is truly the film has a fantasy meets real life feel to it and to me that's a great combination while watching the film i began to think that the setting for this film was real and i forgot that it was in fact made in a computer and any film that can make me do that is a winner in my eyes.
The music for this film was done by the great John Powell who has composed scores for most of Dreamworks Animations films and he does a great job here the music feels epic when it needs to and when it needs to it plays up the emotion in certain scenes there was this one scene in the movie where there is no dialog and it's just music and the music playing is truly beautiful.
Overall i can see why people like this film but for me it was really painfully slow and if i ever do review the second film then i hope that is something that was improved upon but that being said i can see why this became a franchise and it's one that i hope grows and grows for me the first film is a 8.5 out of 10
