Transformers 2007 Film Review

The Transformers franchises is just one of those franchises that everyone seems to know be it from the original show in the eighties to any of their other shows or movies bottom line this brand is very well known. However that wasn't always the case as back in 2007 the brand was good as well dead therefor turning it into a movie didn't make sense and yet that's exactly what happened as we got a really good movie out of it and so then join me as I review the film that helped to make Megan Fox a household name with the film in question being called simply just "Transformers" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when a cube that is said to give life to anything on a planet falls to earth both the good Autobots and the evil Decepticons try to get before the other. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's  actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was on all honesty not that bad. Let's be honest here no one was going into this film expecting the films plot to be good as the plot of the show or even the toyline doesn't really make for a good films plot and yet somehow this film pulled it off by doing one simple thing and that's be anchoring the plot around a boy getting his first car and that's and because of that the films plot does end up working. Yet at the same time tho this films plot ends up taking itself a bit to seriously for it's own good as this is plot and franchise that doesn't really demand a serious plot and therefor you can go to more goofy places with the plot and yet this film plays it's plot entirely which does make it alot less fun to watch as the film does at times feel like it's to afraid of being this fun and goofy plot as yes you can have serious moments in goofy plots you don't have to go from ne extreme to the other and while this films plot is indeed good given the set up of the film it would have worked all the more better if it was more goofy and it was more out there but in saying this tho the films plot does still work and is still a really good plot with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky , Megan Fox as Mikaela Banes and Josh Duhamel as Captain William Lennox. Also starring in this film is Tyrese Gibson as Sergeant Robert Epps , John Turturro as Agent Major Seymour Simmons , Jon Voight as John Keller , Kevin Dunn as Ron Witwicky , Julie White as Judy Witwicky , Rachael Taylor as Maggie Madsen , Anthony Anderson as Glen Whitmann , Michael O'Neill as Tom Banachek , W. Morgan Sheppard as Captain Archibald Witwicky , Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime , Mark Ryan as Bumblebee , Darius McCrary as Jazz , Robert Foxworth as Ratchet , Jess Harnell as Ironhide and Barricade , Charlie Adler as Starscream , Reno Wilson as Frenzy , Jim Wood as Bonecrusher and Hugo Weaving as Megatron.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's  actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was on all honesty not that bad. Given the fact that this film did mostly star very little known actors it would have been foolish for us to expect this film to have some really good acting in it and yet for the most part that's exactly what we got in this film and while yes there are few deliveries that are off with Megan Fox being a bit wooden in some scenes and Tyrese Gibson just overacting in alot of his scenes this films actors do know when to turn in a good performance in this film and when they do they really do nail it. With the best actor in this film being the late and great Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime as the man simply was Optimus Prime there's a reason why they kept on bringing him back over the decades to play the character as he just fits the character so well and that was why there was an outcry when it was for Transformers One that he wouldn't be playing the role again with his performance in this film being a good example of just how good he was as this character as he gives such a commanding performance that every time he speak you hang on every word that he says with him being one of the few actors in this film to always give us a really good performance and knock it out of the park in every single scene that he's in and while it is easy to just ignore his performance as the character as he is a voice to do so would be disingenuous to the performance with him having this natural charm that really does does shine through in his performance. With the acting that's in this very film not really being helped by the fact that this film script is just so bad as it gives none of this films actors anything to work with interms of what it is that there actual characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does harm the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the CGI for this film is Industrial Light & Magic , Digital Domain , Asylum VFX , Gentle Giant Studios , Halon Entertainment and Identity Studios. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's  actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was on all honesty really good. The fact that this films CGI is still really good even nineteen years later is something that does make alot of sense given the fact that the effects companies that worked on this film are a bunch of really good effects companies in there own right with the robot characters looking really good and while yes of course the effects in this film aren't going to look all that good when compared to the effects of today for 2007 they look really good. Heck they even manage to blend in CGI with hard to do things like the fact that they have a Scorpion Decepticon jump out of the sand early on in the film on paper this does sound like a really easy effect to pull however sand much like water acts differently every single time and it's not as simple as adding in a character as you also have to digitally replace the real sand with CGI to have it act the way that you need to it which in this case might just involve showing the character underneath the sand this is something that does make this effect truly stand out as while people will point to the obvious CGI characters as being a good example of the films effects and how well that they hold up very few people will look at the things that you might not know is CGI but would have had to have been done in CGI to accommodate anything else that is needed in that scene.

Much like with the Godzilla films no one is going to this film for the human story as we want to see the actual Transformers and we don't want to see Sam spending most of the film trying to get with Megan Fox. Yet for one reason or another the makers of this film thought that that was we wanted to see which does result in there being more of a focus on the human characters and there story rather then the Autobots and there story this is something that dies make the Transformers feel more like side characters in there own movie when they should be the ones that take centre stage and while of course it does make sense for this film to have human characters heck even the first Transformers film had human characters in it but the human characters in that film didn't get in the way of the main Transformers plot. This is something that isn't the case for this film as just when the main Transformers plot really gets going the films cuts to one of the human characters where we then spend more time with them and there story then we just did with quite literally any of the human characters when it really should have been the other way around as we came to this film to see Optimus Prime not Sam Witwicky however tho given the fact that the franchise was good as well dead when this film came out it does make sense for the makers of this film to focus more on the human characters as for all they could know people might not respond well to either Bumblebee or Optimus Prime for example but there would have been a good chance that they would have responded to the human characters and this line of thinking does make sense but in saying this tho it makes you wonder why the movie was called Transformers as it's the humans that play a bigger role in the film and heck it's Sam not Optimus that ends up killing Megatron when it really needed to be Optimus Prime that did that.

Look to be fair while this movie does have alot of things that are going against the film does have some tings that work for it. With one of those things being the films use of comedy which OK granted be seen as being out of place and weird at times but when it works it really does work as the film does use Sam's parents right by only having them on screen for a few minuets total all throughout the film and not having them play a big role in the climax of the film this does mean that whenever they do appear on screen we end up with some pretty funny moments whereas in the second film there comedy is more of a miss then it is a hit and while OK it could be argued that the same thing is true here but when the parents are funny in this film they really are funny like for example the scene where Judy tells Ron to go and ground Sam for being late and he doesn't do it and instead makes up a story and she just calls him out in it that is funny. However tho the films comedy does have a few weird moments like having Bumblebee do something onto Simmons which is just weird and Judy mention a very personal thing to Sam after they think they've had an earthquake both of those jokes just weren't needed in this film as this is a film that families are going to be seeing and while they do have a very good looking Megan Fox in this film having  good looking girl in the film is different then making weird adult jokes as one of them can be seen as being just for the dads watching the film whereas the weird jokes not only aren't that funny but there also off putting and yet for one reason or another the makers of this film thought that they were OK to have in the film.

The Decepticons plan in this film is perhaps there best one due to how simple it is whereas in the later films it felt like they were just attacking earth for no reason. Here they have a reason to be on Earth that being to retrieve this cube so that they can harness it's powers to bring every single electrical item on Earth to life and build a new army that is a good plan and it is something that does bring them to Earth in a way that makes sense as they much like with the Autobots have to spend a good portion of the film just trying to find it in the first place and heck there plan and human story does come together in a way that does make sense with the thing that let's there plan down being the fact that they aren't on screen all that much with them only appearing early on in the scenes with the army before then appearing in two scenes with Sam and then they disappear for a large portion of the film. These are the films main antagonists and yet there barely in the film at all this is something that does make there plan feel less thought out as its fighting for time with the films human plot when this is a case where the human plot needed to take a back seat to the stuff with the robots with this then allowing the makers of this film the chance to make the villains plan more well thought felt and fleshed out, whilst there is a still stakes in this film that us the audience can understand we end up not caring for either side due to the fact that neither side has given us a reason to care for them in the context of the film as the makers of this film are more focused on making sure then we care for the human which even then doesn't work as the human characters are so badly done which makes the focus on them feel pointless and makes you wonder why the villains plan wasn't more fleshed out as it is a simple plan and is easily the best one that that Decepticons came up with for this live action franchise.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and twenty three minuets and twenty seven seconds. Which for any film is always going to be a really long time even for more so for this film as it does make what would have normally been seen as being small issues now seem all the more bigger due to the fact that we are now forced to focus on them alot more where as if this film did trim ALOT of the fat in the human story and put the main focus back to the Transformers then this is a film that would have ended up being alot more better as the focus would have been where it always should have been and the more annoying human characters would have had there screen time cut out all together with this film having more then enough plot there to cover that amount of running time in the first place. Yet even with this film being as long as it is it still doesn't use its running time all that wisely as the film doesn't take the fully develop its plot with the film having alot of scenes with the humans that add nothing to the plot of the film like we don't need to see Sam being questioned by the police and nor do we need to see both Maggie and Glen getting questioned either as both of those scenes add nothing to the plot of the film and yet they are in the film eating up screen time that would have been better used in developing the plot of the film with the makers of this film putting more thought and effort in the human plot then they did into giving the main plot of the film plot development. This is something that is also true for the films character development as none of this films character get any kind of character development due to the fact that the makers of the film clearly didn't care enough to give them character development and while yes it could be argued that the human characters get there character development in the next films and the robot characters got there's in the original show the fact does still remain that neither group got anything in this film with the makers of this film caring more about making sure that we fell in love with Megan Fox then they did in giving the films characters any kind of character development but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's a actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. This is something that again does make sense as the one thing that this films director Michael Bay knows how to do is direct good action scenes and to this films credit they are the best scenes in the film and its not hard to see why as while he doesn't go as over the top with explosions like he does in the the films the films action is still really fun to watch with it being clear that the makers of this film care more about the action then they did the plot. With the best action scene in this film being the third act fight in the city as we have all three groups in this one scene with the humans working with the Autobots to get the cube of the planet and we have the Decepticons doing everything in there power to make sure that that doesn't happen yet it all works so well with alot of the characters even the army characters getting there chance to shine, the true standout scene in that third act has to be when Mikaela ties Bumblebee to the back of a tow truck and drives it into battle with him blasting everything he can which is just such a cool moment in the film that it just works and heck we even get to see a Megatron vs Optimus Prime fight and while the wrong character ends up killing Megatron the fight itself again is just cool to watch with that word cool being the best word to describe the action in the third act of this film as that's it is it's cool with the rest of the films action being just as good as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall it really is hard to believe that this film is almost twenty years old with it turning twenty next year and heck the film does feel like it was made just a few short years ago as the things that really worked well for it back in 2007 still work today in 2026 with this film easily being really one of the better live action Transformers films in the whole entire franchise in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
