Zootopia Film Review
Back when it first came out Zootopia took the animation world by storm and yet for years there hadn't been word of a sequel. Yet we are now just a few short days away from the release of Zootopia 2 with the only film that could only make a decent tie in review being the very film that i'm going to taking to you all about today with this film also holding up shockingly well and so then join me as I review the film that shows that Disney does still know how to make a good animated film with the film in question being called simply just "Zootopia" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when a young rabbit finally gets accepted into the police of a big city she gets given two days to find a missing Otter and has to team up with a Fox to find him and stop a bigger scheme from coming true. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films plot being delightfully absurd in all of the best ways possible with the films plot being one of the more better Disney animated plots with this being due to the fact that the films plot revels in how crazy it is and isn't afraid to be nothing more then a dumb film with even the basic idea of the film being more then strong enough to support an entire film with the same thing also being true for the films as on paper this is a plot that really shouldn't have been that strong and yet the makers of this film seem to have gone out of there way to make this films plot work and bee alot more stronger then what it really should have been with the only thing that lets the films plot down being the fact that things aren't allowed to breathe with things happening so quickly with all of the plot points being something that would have worked better if the film just slowed down for a minuet or two as that would allow them to have more of an impact and yet because of the fact that the plot seems to be on fast forward alot of the time alot of the films ideas just fall flat on their face with the plot of the film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps , Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde and Idris Elba as Chief Bogo. Also starring in this film is Jenny Slate as Dawn Bellwether , Nate Torrence as Benjamin Clawhauser , Bonnie Hunt as Bonnie Hopps , Don Lake as Stu Hopps , Tommy Chong as Yax , J. K. Simmons as Leodore Lionheart , Octavia Spencer as Mrs. Otterton , Alan Tudyk as Duke Weaselton , Raymond S. Persi as Flash Slothmore and Officer Higgins , Maurice LaMarche as Mr. Big , Phil Johnston as Gideon Grey and A Zootopia Citizen , Fuschia! as Major Friedkin , John DiMaggio as Jerry Jumbeaux Jr. , Woolter , Jesse , A Moose and A Pig Reporter , Leah Latham as Fru Fru , Shakira as Gazelle and Kristen Bell as Priscilla.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films actors turning in some really good performances in this film something which was quite shocking as alot of this films actors aren't that well known and yet they still turned into some good performances with them even out acting alot of this films more well known actors with the makers of the film even making the smart choice to cast actual voice actors for alot of the films more bigger roles as well something which does pay off as they do are really good in this film with all of the films characters being perfectly well cast so much so that it's hard to picture anyone else voicing these characters as that's well cast that these characters are in this film and while there are some pretty OK performances in the film as well like for example Shakira isn't that good in the film that's more due to the fact that she's a trained singer and not a trained actor with the best actor in this film being Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps as she makes what could have been seen as being a really unlikable and annoying character somehow seem alot more likable and relatable with the acting that's in this film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
Doing the animation for this film is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Walt Disney Animation Studios. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that' actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good which given that this film was being animated by Walt Disney Animation isn't something that's all that surprising as while they do get alot of hate for all of the bad films that they release Disney does always give us some top quality animation in all of their animated movies with that being something that can't dismissed with that also being the case for this film as well as everything in this film from the character designs to how Zootopia itself looks is really well done with there being lots of tiny details in each and every scene with the film taking as full advantage as it could have done with the fact that this films world is made up of animals by giving the main city alot of different hubs for each animal all of which look visually distinct from one and another and they all work because of it with even the films characters having alot of very fluid movements and due to the fact that they have very human faces they do get alot of expressions out of them with us being able to tell just what each character is thinking just from their facial expressions alone with the only thing that lets the films animation down being the fact that it does look a little bit bland when the film is in the main city and that's really it as otherwise this film does have some really good animation that does make this film one of the companies better recent animated films.
To be frank the very idea of all of these different animals having there own separate "cities" if you will is a really good idea. As it does allow for some really cool and creative environments the issue is tho is that the film doesn't take us to any of these environments outside of the jungle and the town where Judy is from and that's really it and even then those places aren't explored at all which makes them feel more like a waste of a good idea as it would have been super cool and interesting to see alot more of these places even if it's just for a few seconds as it would have helped to make the world of this film feel more lived in and real and yet the makers of the film didn't do that with this having the adverse effect of making this films world feel alot more smaller then what it actually is and heck we spend the vast majority of the film not exploring Zootopia but in the main Zootopia town itself which isn't that visually interesting to look at as it's just our world but now there's animals walking and talking in it and that's it yet if we got to see more of the jungle and more of Judy's home town it would have made this idea of the animals having there own separate areas feel more fleshed out with this being something that even the show Zootopia+ didn't do this is despite the fact that the show was an anthology and very easily could have done exactly that and heck even the idea of Judy training to possibly go across a desert type town is interesting because how would she and Nick be able to get across that town in a sand storm in the first place as while yes they do offer training for that at the films police academy it is something that would have been quite fun to see in the actual film itself.
The friendship of Judy and Nick was one that was rather sweet as even tho they both have there own personal prejudices about each others species. That is something that they both have to over come and that was actually kind of interesting to see a film basically tackle the issue of race in a way that is not only subtle but also more welcoming to kids as well and while some of Judy's dialog about race can be seen as being very handed like she chastises Clawhauser for calling her cute when she's only known him for less then a minuet at that point in time but seeing that even there bond isn't that strong and seeing them have to work to make it stronger when Judy indirectly accuses Nick and wolfs in general as being at risk of going insane and attacking people was a strong character moment for her as it shows that even the character who up until that point in time has been the films moral compass as she's always doing the right thing can at times slip up and make and mistake with this being something that oddly makes her flawed as a character and seeing her overcome that in the films third act makes her a more stronger character because of it with the same thing being true for Nick who has to learn to trust people again after some kids ruthlessly bullied him as a kid and while he doesn't have that big moment where he's forced to face that fear head on like Judy is it's the fact that he still has to overcome and can only overcome it with Judy by his side that makes him a stronger character and that also makes there friendship stronger because of it as without each other both characters wouldn't be as strong as they are when there together as friends.
Like alot of the more modern Disney films this film does also have a surprise villain which is a trope that's becoming more and more tiring the more that it comes up. However here in this film due to the fact that this is quite literally a cop movie it does make sense that Dawn Bellwether would be a surprise villain as the characters of the film have to work out who the main villain of the film is in the first place something which is made all the more easier to do due the fact that the characters do have a mystery to solve with Dawn Bellwether herself being a really good villain as all she wants is to be mayor of Zootopia and that's it yet due to her diminutive height she doesn't get any respect from any of the more bigger animals so she of course thinks that she has to get rid of them in order to get what she wants which is something that makes sense for her character and is quite frankly quite terrifying to see as she does form a strong bond with Judy with who she sees as being like her due to the fact that there both small animals trying to make a big difference with the only difference being that she is willing to go against the law to get what she wants where as Judy is perfectly willing to do things by the book to get the same results with the only thing that could have made her reveal as the big bad all the more shocking was if she actually tried to help Judy and Nick out in the case by going to interview suspects with them as then they would have gotten the chance to be completely fooled by her and while Jenny Slate is a good actor in this film she doesn't make for a good villain as her voice just isn't that scary this is despite the fact that the makers of this film do try to make Bellwether seem all the more terrifying when it's revealed that she is the films big bad.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and forty eight minuets and thirty two seconds. Which to be fair to this film is a perfectly running time for this film to have in the first place with the film having the right amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time with the film even using it's running time wisely in both aspects as well with the films plot being as well developed as it was ever going to be with the film giving us a good solid mystery on top of that as while the mystery doesn't give us the audience a chance to work it out for ourselves by giving us clues both the plot and the films mystery were as good as thy were ever going to be as nobody was ever going to expect a mystery film from Disney to be that good in the first place with the films plot being ne that's really well developed due to the fact that the film does spend alot of time in setting up things in the films plot that aren't payed off until much more later on in the film with the same thing also being true for the films characters as well as all of the films main characters are really well developed and while the films side characters like Judy's parents for example aren't that well developed and don't get alot of screen time this is something that does make alot of sense as there not the main characters of the film with all of the films main characters getting alot of development with them being very vastly different characters at the end of the film then they were at the start of the film as the Nick at the start of the film wouldn't be friends with anyone let alone a police officer and Judy wouldn't be as streetwise as she is at the start of the film as she is at the end of the film but I really will admit that this films really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally tought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With alot of this films jokes being laugh out loud funny as that's just how funny that all of this films jokes are with alot of them being very character driven as they do feel like the types of jokes that these characters would make and while alot of this films jokes are just the kinds of jokes that those species of animals are known for that doesn't stop them from being really funny and good jokes in the first place with the best joke in the whole entire film being when Nick straight up interrupts Judy by telling Flash a joke which with him being a sloth makes the whole thing even funnier as all throughout the scene he's been very slowly getting Judy the information that she requested with her getting more and more frustrated the longer that the scene goes on with Nick only stopping him and interrupting him just when he's about to press in the final number which is just great comedic timing on that joke as it would have been just as funny if he did that at any point during the scene but it's the fact that he waited right until she was about to get all of the information that she wanted that he then chose to tell him a joke which is something that does make that joke even more funnier in the first place as you can just sense Judy's frustration building up all throughout that scene with alot of this films jokes being a lot of really funny jokes as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall this is a film that really does need to be seen to be believed as you can tell that Disney did put alot of effort into making this film as good as it was with this being a film that really does deserve all of the praise that it got and all of the love that it still gets to this very day in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and a swell as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Disney fandom wiki page , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
