Scoob! Film Review

The Scooby-Doo franchise is one that's been going on since the sixties and while the franchise might be on a bit of pause right now with no new TV shows out and no new movies direct to DVD or not currently in development. It still doesn't mean that there still aren't films to talk about as there's quite literally tens of direct to DVD animated films , a handful of live action films and one theatrically released animated movie to talk about with it being that very film that i'm going to be talking to you all about today and so then join me as I review the film that has alot of other Hanna-Barbera characters in it with the film in question being called simply just "Scoob!" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when Shaggy and Scooby are kidnapped Fred , Velma and Daphne have to find out where they are and together along with Blue Falcon , Dynomutt and Dee Dee Skyes have to stop the dastardly Dick Dastardly from trying to take over the world. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about thew actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad however this films plot wasn't all that good as it felt like it was trying to be anything other then a Scooby-Doo movie as the film really offers nothing that al of the good Scooby-Doo films have outside of the fact it does have an interesting premise and setup and that's really it which is odd as due to all of the deep cut characters that are in this film it's clear as day that the makers of this film are fans of the franchise and yet none of them bothered to put in a plot that would be right at home in a Scooby-Doo film as while the plot of this film is a strong enough plot to be in a film it's also not the kind of plot that you'd expect these characters to be apart off and while yes the Scooby characters have been in superhero type movies before now heck even one of them was a team up movie with Blue Falcon and Dynomutt the plot to that film also stayed true to the Scooby-Doo franchise as a whole whereas this film and this films plot doesn't do that at all with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Frank Welker as Scooby-Doo , Will Forte as Norville "Shaggy" Rogers and Gina Rodriguez as Velma Dinkley. Also starring in this film is Zac Efron as Fred Jones , Amanda Seyfried as Daphne Blake , Iain Armitage as Young Shaggy Rogers , Mark Wahlberg as Brian Crown / Blue Falcon , Ariana Greenblatt as Young Velma Dinkley , Pierce Gagnon as Young Fred Jones , Mckenna Grace as Young Daphne Blake , Kiersey Clemons as Dee Dee Skyes , Ken Jeong as Dynomutt The Dog Wonder , Christina Hendricks as Officer Jaffe , Tracy Morgan as Captain Caveman and Jason Isaacs as Dick Dastardly.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With alot of this films actors being passable in this film with this being just as true for the actors that playing Shaggy , Fred , Velma and Daphne as they were all replaced for this film for no good reason which as there regular voice actors are more well known to little kids as these characters and heck they even brought one of them back to reprise his role as Scooby-Doo which makes you wonder why the makers of this film didn't have them all back for this film with there replacements not being that bad in this film but it's clear as day that actors like Will Forte for example were only hired because of the fact that there a more well known actor and that's really it but as good as he is can be in this film he's miscast in this film as he could have made for a solid Blue Falcon since this version of the character is alot more goofy so it would have made sense to cast him in that role but as Shaggy he's just not as good as Matthew Lillard or Casey Kasem with the best actor in this film of course being Frank Welker as Scooby-Doo due to the fat that he's quite literally been playing the character for decades at this point in time and has really gotten his voice for the character down perfectly with him being really good in this film with the same thing being true for Jason Isaacs as well with the acting that's in this film not really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so bad as it gives none of this film actors absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that there actual characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does harm the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the animation for this film is Agora Studio , Little Zoo Studio and the legends and the greats that are currently over at Reel FX Creative Studios. Now then interms of what Im personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with the films animation looking like the kind of animation that this franchise not only deserves but also needed for it's first ever big screen animated movie with all of the characters having some really fun designs to them with alot of them both paying homage to how the characters looked in the past but also giving them an updated look as well with the only one that really remains faithful design wise being Scooby-Doo himself as he does look like how he did in Scooby Doo Where Are You only slightly more modernized and that's really it with all of the characters having these really nice and fluid movements to them but the true standout when it comes to this films animation has to be the backgrounds with this film having alot of a really unique looking backgrounds all of which have things about them that make them stand out be it the steampunk look of Dick Dastardly's ship or the more the colorful look of the gangs home town of Venice Beach bottom line there's alot of really good looking backgrounds to be found in this film with film almost being worth watching just for the backgrounds alone but with that being said tho when the film does have a bad looking ground like the ones seen in Greece it is something that stands out due to how good the rest of the films backgrounds are.

As was mentioned earlier on in this review it really does seem like that the makers of this film were fans of Scooby-Doo. As they do include alot of deep cut characters that aren't as well known today as they were decades ago as no kid today will know who Captain Caveman and Dee Dee are nor will they know who Blue Falcon and Dynomutt are with the only ones that the films target kid audience might be aware off being Dick Dastardly and Muttley which even then is due to the fact that the Wacke Races reboot was airing around the same time that this film was being released but either way it does show you that the makers of this film the makers of this film were fans of Hanna-Barbera and knew just what characters to use and when to use them but it's how they use them in this film that feels wrong as Captain Caveman is no longer the lovable goofball he once was rather he's pretty much the leader of this hidden tribe of stone age like people and Dee Dee while yes she was more or less the leader of the teen angels here she a more competent version of this films version of Blue Falcon as he is now more or less the goofball type of character that Captain Caveman was in Captain Caveman and The Teen Angels and Dynomutt like Captain Caveman is now no longer a goofball that people loved but is now a super serious character with the only character to pretty much be the same as he was back in his original show Wacky Races being Dick Dastardly as he's still the loveable villain who doesn't get things quite right as he was back in that show only now it's cranked up to eleven because it's a feature film and having be the same way as he was back in that show does make alot of sense as he is pretty much the bad guy in the Hanna-Barbera world and so keeping him like that and filling that same role for what is to date his only big screen appearance does make alot of sense.

Like what the first and third live action Scooby-Doo films did this film does put alot of focus on the friendship between Shaggy and Scooby. With the film even going as far as to show the two of them as basically being loners when they were kids before meeting each other and while showing how strong there friendship is does make sense it does also feel like it's just copying what the 2002 live action Scooby-Doo film did as that film also put alot of focus n their bond as friends as well only in that film it was something that we generally hadn't seen before then and so it came across as being new and original where as here it comes across as being tired and worn out because of the fact that it's been done in both the movies and various TV shows as well with the film even having the two of them predictably stop being friends which interms of the film makes alot of sense but interms of the characters and how we the audience know these characters to be it doesn't make alot of sense as these two characters would always be best friends with each other no matter what and heck even in the first live action Scooby-Doo film Shaggy risked his life just to see were Scooby had been taken because that's how much he meant to him and interms of the shows Scooby was so offended that Shaggy kept a secret from him that it caused him to question there friendship something which would get resolved with their bond being stronger then ever but the two of them would never ever stop being friends and while having them stop being friends is a great way to cause drama it's also something that does feel forced as you very easily could have had that drama come from both Blue Falcon and his friends arguing with the Mystery Ince gang and still achieve the exact same results.

To be frank while it was nice seeing Dick Dastardly being the main villain in something on the big screen. The makers of this film still made no attempt to tell a genuinely mystery with the film just out right telling us both who the villain is and what there motive is which in this case is Dick Dastardly and he's only the villain of this film because he wants gold and that's really it where as alot of what made the good Scooby-Doo movies work was the fact that they had a genuinely good mystery aspect to them that required alot of repeat viewing just to pick up on any clues that we might have missed the first time around with this being something that the franchise has a whole has been built around for almost fifty six years and yet it's something that the makers of this film could be bothered to do which makes you wonder why they bothered to make a Scooby-Doo film in the first place if they were never going to do one of the things that Scooby-Doo was known for in the first place as all of the mysterious in the original Where Are You were ones that you really had to think about and what made you pay attention to the screen incase you had missed an clue that might have helped to give away who the main villain of the episode was and this is something that a film like Scooby-Doo On Zombie Island knew to not only keep but also expand upon for a feature length running time with the film becoming all the more better because of it and yet this film doesn't do that as there are no clues given as to who the villain as the film outright says who it is with the film even just saying what there motive is when both of those things would have made the film even more better if we were allowed to work it out for ourselves with it feeling like that the makers of this film were treating the film target kid audience like there not that smart when kids really are so much more smarter then what Hollywood both thinks and gives them credit for.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty three minuets and forty three seconds. Which to be fair is a pretty standard running time for a theatrically released Scooby-Doo film to have with this film even having the right amount of plot there to really cover that amount of running time but in saying that tho this is a film that really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as it doesn't fully develop it's plot to the point where us the audience start to actually get excited for what might happen next as the makers of this film were far more interested in both ruining little known characters and putting more focus on the friendship between Shaggy and Scooby then they are in fully developing the plot of their film with this even being true for the films characters as well as outside of Shaggy , Scooby , Blue Falcon and Dynomutt none of this films characters get any kind of character development whatsoever and even then it's debatable that those four characters get character development due to the fact that we know just as much about them as characters coming out of the film then we did going in to the film which is something that really does make it hard to buy into these new versions of the characters as while the Mystery Ince gang will always have that charm to them that will keep people both young and old coming to see there next adventure the makers of this film still needed to make the characters feel alot more rounded out as characters and that's something that it just didn't do due to the fact that all of it's attention was on the friendship between Shaggy and Scooby and really nothing else but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. However much like the films plot this films comedy also isn't all that good with the film having just as many jokes that miss the mark then it does have jokes that hit the mark with alot of the stuff that Dick Dastardly says about himself when he's in disguise starting of as being slightly funny but the more it goes on the more unfunny that it becomes however tho when this film does tell a good joke it can be a really good joke like when Velma first describes Dastardly with Daphne then replying if the bad guy is her dad just because of the fact that Dastardly is meant to smell of twelve year scotch and hair oil which is a really good joke and is something that does prove that the makers of this film can tell a good joke if they really wanted to with another example of this being the films best joke as when Shaggy and Scooby first enter The Falcon Fury and they both say were they think they are only for Scooby to say that he thinks that they are in Ikea only for Shaggy to hear him and call him out on it which does result in Scooby denying that he said Ikea in the first place and instead much like Shaggy also said Falcon Fury which is a really good joke as it does feel like something that Scooby would say as he is the type of the character who isn't the smartest tool in the shed and therefor would get something confused with Idea with the film having some other decent jokes in it with the film having more bad jokes in it then it does good ones in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while Scooby-Doo! and Krypto, Too! is the last official Scooby-Doo film to be released this one is to date not only the last theatrically released Scooby-Doo released but also the last ever animated theatrically released Scooby-Doo film to be released as despite this film having alot of really good things in it it does feel like that it's to afraid to being a Scooby-Doo film and is more interested in a being a superhero film but with Hanna-Barbera characters in it in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Scooby-Doo fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great the official Scooby-Doo fandom wiki page this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from the official Scooby-Doo fandom wiki page are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid the official Scooby-Doo fandom wiki page really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
